After Nutella crepes and cappuccinos for breakfast on the main plaza, we took an exploratory walk around town. Great churches and history. We also managed to launch our first drone flight of the trip. Amazing aerial pictures. We left Huauchinango at around 10:30am.
Andy survived the night but still queasy so we did not leave him behind : ) Charles and Mike are now succumbing to the aztec goods also ... but not all the way yet.
We had a great ride ... the weather was perfect ... sunny, 75 degrees ... we climbed from 4500ft to the high plains at 9500ft, and back down to 4500ft at the end of the day.
Charles managed to bend the second wheel of the trip ... the rear one on his KTM ... but not the front?? Go figure. We stopped in Apizaco to try to fix it but a slow leak started shortly after which made us limp along all the way to Xico.
On the way down from the high plains, we saw a wall of clouds in front of us thinking it was just that, clouds ... but, surprise ... temperature dropped from 75 to 48 degrees in 10 minutes and thick fog closed in on us all the way down to Xico ... and then, rain!
Trying to get through Xalapa, the capital of the State of Veracruz, in the fog and rain, with your helmet all fogged up, and lots of traffic was an interesting challenge.
We finally made it to Xico as it was getting dark ... great hotel (a converted Spanish residence) ... we went out for pizza and went to bed.
Tomorrow we will walk around Xico a bit and then head to the beach! Veracruz, here we come.
