Getting Ready for La Huasteca!

We are finalizing all the preparations for our trip to a part of Mexico that we have never been to - La Huasteca.

La Huasteca is a geographical and cultural region in the East part of Mexico which includes parts of the states Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Puebla, Queretaro, Hidalgo, and San Luis Potosi.  This is the area where the Huastecos lived at the height of their civilization around the 10th to 15th century.

This area is known for its small colonial towns, many are included in Mexico's list of Pueblos Magicos, and its natural beauty - rivers, thermal waters, canyons, caves, waterfalls ... and the beaches in the Gulf of Mexico.

We are now getting things ready:  import permits for the motorcycles, MedJet insurance cards renewed, SPOT tracker memberships renewed, tires and oil changed, hotel reservations, route alternatives and points of interest.

The old saying of living a trip like this twice is coming to life again.  Heading into an unknown area, asking people in the country, and people outside that know the area, for ideas and feedback is always a lot of fun.

Here is the route as it stands today.  As of right now, the group going includes Richard Myers, Joe and Sagy Reina, John Hubbard, Charles Smyth, Mike Drinkwater, Jim Stabler, Bob Smith, and myself.  Sagy is actually from this area so we have a built in guide to make sure we do not miss anything - including the opportunity to parachute base jump into the Cave of Swallows (1200ft deep).

We will be riding BMW R1200GS Adventure, KTMs, and Triumph motorcycles.
